This Sunday 19th January, Adelaide United will host a celebrity match in support of The Martyn Crook Foundation as a curtain raiser to the big clash against the Western Sydney Wanderers at Coopers Stadium.
A group of ex Reds players, and South Australian media and sporting personalities will take part in the match. Club Community sponsor Stratco have also jumped on board with a financial donation to The Martyn Crook Foundation.
Adelaide United formed a partnership with The Martyn Crook Foundation in 2013, to work together to develop and progress the Foundation’s objective to assist in the advancement of initiatives that enhance the lives of people through involvement in Association Football across Australia.
Close friend of Martyn Crook, ex Reds Vice Captain, and Martyn Crook Foundation Ambassador Lucas Pantelis still holds fond memories of his old mentor .
“He selected me for SA Sports Institute program when I was 13, gave me a full time scholarship and was my coach for three and a half years. He gave me confidence and never doubted that I could make it. He had a gift of seeing if you had it in you”, Pantelis said.
As an Adelaide boy himself, Pantelis drew great inspiration from Martyn.
“What he achieved as a player at West Adelaide, and for the Socceroos, gave me that inspiration that an Adelaide boy can do anything”.
Other famous faces taking part on Sunday include club legends Carl Veart, Angelo Costanzo and Richie Alagich (also a Martyn Crook Foundation Ambassador), as well as a host of media personalities, current Adelaide 36ers players, and Crows players Jared Petrenko and Shaun McKernan trying their hand at coaching the round ball game.
