In a major boost for youth development in Queensland, Brisbane Roar can confirm the club’s entry into the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland competition for 2014 and onwards.
The club’s Foxtel National Youth League (NYL) squad will play in the NPL Senior Men’s competition with a Brisbane Roar Senior Women’s squad competing in the NPL Under 15 boys division.
Following the appointment of Football Director Ken Stead in September 2013, today’s announcement further underlines the club’s long-term commitment to the ongoing development of both male and female footballers in Queensland.
“This is a major step forward for Brisbane Roar,” Stead said.
“Playing in the National Premier Leagues Queensland competition gives our best youth and senior women’s players an opportunity to play football and develop their skills all year around.
“Our focus is not on winning the competition but providing opportunities and producing players.
“As a club, we are leading the way in this state by building a player pathway that will result in talented footballers to play for Brisbane Roar.”
The NYL team will continue to be coached by long-time club stalwart Jeff Hopkins while Brisbane Roar W-League Head Coach Belinda Wilson will look after the Senior Women’s side.
The competition starts in mid-February for the Senior Women in the NPL Under 16 boys competition and in March for the Roar NYL team in the NPL Senior Men’s division.
