Melbourne Heart captain Harry Kewell has been ruled out with injury yet again, this time picking up an ankle injury sustained at the end of Wednesday’s training session.
Kewell has been ruled out for a fortnight and will miss this Friday night’s clash against last year’s premiers Western Sydney Wanderers and will also miss next weeks crucial match against fellow strugglers Sydney FC.
Before Wednesday’s training session Harry Kewell spoke to the media insisting he was fit and ready to take on Western Sydney after recovering fully from a whiplash injury he picked up in round one.
Melbourne Heart later confirmed via a release that Kewell fell abruptly on his right ankle during training and yesterday underwent scans which confirmed there was no serious structural damage but still rules him out for 14 days.
Kewell’s injury comes as a big blow for Coach John Aloisi who already has Marquee signing Orlando Engelaar out with a broken leg and former Socceroo Patrick Kisnorbo who picked up a knee injury against Perth Glory.
Harry Kewell looks set to return against Newcastle Jets on 24 November.
