The Westfield Matildas’ pathway to Asian glory has been laid out following today’s draw for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2014. The Westfield Matildas will be looking to retain the crown they won in 2010 – to date the only Asian title won by a male or female Australian team at any level – when they tackle the continent’s best next May in Vietnam. The Westfield Matildas have defeated China PR 2-1 in the second and final match at Parramatta. Goals either side of half-time from Lisa De Vanna and Emily van Egmond were enough to see off China who pulled a goal back from the penalty spot midway through the second half. Australia were 2-0 victors over China in Wollongong on Sunday. The Westfield Matildas have defeated China PR 2-0 in the first of their two-match series. Goals from Katrina Gorry and Tameka Butt in the first half proved the difference on the scoreboard in an impressive showing by the Australian team at WIN Stadium in Wollongong. The Westfield Matildas have suffered a blow with co-captain Kate Gill ruled out of this week’s international matches against China PR due to illness. Kyah Simon Suffers Major Injury

Football Federation Australia can confirm that Westfield Matildas forward Kyah Simon has suffered a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in her right knee and is set to be out of the game for 12 months.
