The Newcastle Jets and Gary van Egmond have agreed a mutual termination of his contract as head coach of the Jets effective immediately, with current National Youth League coach and former Socceroo Clayton Zane appointed as interim head coach. Craig Deans will remain as an assistant coach while also taking on the role of National Youth League coach for the remainder of the season.
