Entering the final round of the 2016 NPL Queensland season the Premiers may already have been crowned last week in the form of the Brisbane Strikers, but there’s still plenty to play for across the final round of the regular season. Strikers claim 2016 NPL Queensland Premiership

Brisbane Strikers have claimed their first piece of silverware in the NPL Queensland era by winning the 2016 Premiership. Coupled with second placed FNQ Heat drawing 1-1 against last seasons double winners Moreton Bay, Strikers 6-1 thumping of Northern Fury in Townsville was enough to secure the silverware. The Premiership win for the Strikers doesn’t just put make them the to seed for the upcoming finals series, it also catapults them onto the national stage to participate in the NPL national finals series next month. NPL Queensland Update

It’s been an interesting and competitive winter of football across the state with some good football played. As things stand, there’s just five rounds remaining in the 2016 Regular Season, and FNQ Heat have a one point lead at the top of the table, while early pace-setting Redlands United falling to fifth.  There are also at least six genuine contenders for finals places, with two others perhaps considered outsiders at this stage which should ensure that there’s plenty of excitement to come. The opening month of the new season has thrown up some surprises with FNQ Heat leading the way with 10 points out of 12 to start the season, one point clear of both defending champions Moreton Bay and Brisbane City.
