Eight Tasmanian teams remain in the hunt for Tasmania’s only position in the inaugural FFA Cup.
The round of 16 of the Lakoseljac Cup saw some major upsets, underdogs University took down highly fancied Victory League opponent Glenorchy Knights to put themselves into the final eight and Northern Rangers ended Olympia’s statewide cup defence swiftly, shocking the Warriors with a hat-trick from English import Adam Edwards seeing the Northerners win 3-0.
Northern Rangers, Kingborough Lions, Clarence United, Launceston City, Devonport Strikers, University and South Hobart all proceeded through with victories in their round of 16 matches, while Tilford Zebras made it through with Burnie forfeiting their cup tie. All eight clubs remain in the hunt for Tasmania’s FFA Cup spot, with the winner of the Lakoseljac Cup to go through.
In 2014, the FFA Cup sees teams from across the country meet in an exciting new cup competition that puts local amateur clubs into the draw up against professional A-League outfits.
The final eight teams will be drawn out for their quarter final fixtures, with the matches to take place on Monday 21st of April, 2014.
