Roar bolster squad with second Spaniard

Fresh off the back of signing experienced midfielder Miguel Corona from Almeria, John Aloisi has added a second Spaniard to his squad just days out from the new season in the shape of Javier Hervas.

It was a signing that was strongly hinted at last night’s fans forum with numerous references to a ‘player on a plane’, but conformation on the player wasn’t expected for another day or so.

The signing is yet to be made official with a medical to take place in the coming days, however that’s expected to be a formality.

Hervas, 26, had previously been contracted to La Liga giants Sevilla, but struggled to make the grade and was loaned out to a host of clubs, most recently for Sabadell.

Last season saw Hervas make 23 appearances for the club, scoring two goals, with previous loan stints to Hercules and back to Cordoba where he came through the ranks as a junior.

Given he hasn’t arrived yet, he obviously wont be involved in round one, meaning he could make his debut at home against Central Coast Sunday week.

This signing is possible due to the fact that Henrique is set to receive his citizenship, news which was confirmed at the football department fan forum last night.

The signing takes Brisbane’s squad to 21 players plus full time NYL and injury replacement players, and fills the clubs fifth and final visa spot after Henrique finally becomes an Australian citizen at a ceremony tonight.

With the departure of Luke Brattan recently, the clubs midfield looked to be very light on but with the arrival of the Spanish duo, the middle of the park is looking like a strength once again.

After previously expressing concerns regarding depth, Brisbane’s now is getting back to the level they’ve enjoyed in recent times and there’s a clear improvement in terms of investment in the playing squad which is a good sign.
