Melbourne City FC v Newcastle Jets

The Clash: One side with so much promise for the season has taken their time to get going.  The other no one rated after an off season of turmoil are keeping pace with the leaders.

The Stats: City are in their best run of home wins in their history, unbeaten in 10 regular season matches. They have been solid at the back during this run as well as conceding only four goals and keeping six clean sheets. Confidence should be high in the Jets’ camp after knocking over the Champions last week and this weekend they will be keen to win back-to-back games for the first time since March 2014.

The Prediction: City will be made to work against a stubborn Jets side 1-0 – probably a Mooy free-kick.

Melbourne Victory v Wellington Phoenix

The Clash: It will be interesting to see how Victory backup from their midweek FFA Cup semi-final and how Wellington respond to Football Federation Australia’s decision to deny the club a ten year licence renewal.

The Stats: Victory have scored all their goals this season in one game, the derby, and have looked flat in the other two. Perhaps a return to Etihad this week will be the catalyst for goals and a better performance.  Victory do have the upper-hand in this fixture winning 10 of the last 12 and Wellington have only won away once in this fixture and that came in their last encounter. The Nix are also unbeaten in their last five away games and are scoring freely at the moment.

The Prediction: A return of goals for Victory but the Nix will match them 2-2
